Day 7: Heighten your awareness

Today is all about adventures for the senses.

Focus on all of your senses today. What does the air smell like? Can you pick out particular sounds in your environment? What car is rattling? Which one has the bass booming? What color is dominating your landscape today?

Day 6: Rock out to a new beat

“For heights and depths no words can reach, music is the soul’s own speech.”

Break out of your regular playlist and listen to new music today.

Check out your local venues and go see a new band. Change your Pandora station to something you’ve never heard of. Listen to an opera in its entirety.

Day 5: Get foodie with it

The colors and aromas of ethnic cuisines from around the world can open us up to all kinds of adventure.

For today’s adventure, try a new food.

Maybe it’s one you’ve never heard of before (quinoa? kim chi? — let’s give it go!) Or how about a food or spice you’re used to avoiding — hot salsa? chili paste? wasabi? Or maybe simply order a different item from your favorite restaurant instead of the regular.

Now’s the time to give your palate a little extra adventure. You never know what you might fall in love with.

Feeling extra adventurous? Invite a friend to cook something new for you and taste it without knowing what it is.

Day 4: Stretch your brain

It’s often said that knowledge is power. What have you learned recently?

For today’s adventure, learn something new.

Some ideas to get you thinking:

  • How to fly a kite.
  • How to say ‘adventure’ in three different languages.
  • Learn to knit.
  • How to tie a bowline knot.
  • The capitals for every province in Canada.
  • Something about a loved one you don’t know.

Day 3: Remap your route

Ever feel like you’re totally stuck in a rut and doing the same thing day in and day out?

For your daily adventure today, consider a different means of transportation to work (or school) — Can you bike? Walk? Take a bus or carpool? Or, if you can’t do that, take a different (maybe more scenic) route and see what you discover.

Day 2: Notice the little things

It’s often easy to overlook the little things as we go about our days.

Today’s adventure invites you to pause and notice the littlest things: The way the light comes in the window. The rise and fall of your chest as you breath (or maybe the breath of whoever else is in the room.) The patterns made by the trees.

How do the little things add adventure to your day? What have you discovered that you had missed before?

Day 1: A new perspective

It’s a brand new year and many of us take this time to start fresh.

Today’s adventure is all about seeing things in a new and different light. Take a photo of something familiar from a new angle: up close; upside down; from above; from underneath.

What do you notice? What’s interesting? Unique?

Gear up for 31 Days of Adventure!

Everyday, beginning January 1, we’ll post the day’s daily adventure right here on this page. You can also sign up here and receive these prompts directly in your inbox each morning.

Before we begin, we’d like to invite you to think about what adventure means to you. How do you define it? When you hear the word “adventure,” what images come up for you? Feelings? Activities?

Are there particular smells or sounds you associate with the word?

Throughout January, we’re going to suggest that adventure can mean many different things. From the activities you engage in, to viewing the world just a little bit differently than before.

We’re so excited you’re here. Head over to get your blog or website on our list of participants if you haven’t already and get ready to kick off the new year with adventure.

Welcome!

Amy + Lydia
