We are at the end of our 31 Days of Adventure. We’ve dance our hearts out and learned 10 dollar words. We’ve splashed in puddles and tried new foods. We’ve enhanced our senses and felt the wind on our skin. It’s been a fun ride and we hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have.
We want to take a moment to thank you guys for joining us on this journey. We know that you made this such a success and it’s been an amazing adventure for us. We’ve had a blast and will leave you (for now) with one final adventure and some thoughts.
First, look back at what you wrote a month ago. What did adventure mean to you? What does it mean to you today?
Next, today’s adventure invites you to come up with ways to incorporate daily adventure into your life for the next 31 days.
For the extra adventurous: Take a picture of something that represents or symbolizes what adventure means to you and share it with us! We’d love to see all the different ways you view adventure.
Happy Adventuring!
Lydia + Amy
P.S. We are busy brainstorming new ways to bring you adventure so stay tuned — you might be hearing from us again!

Today’s adventure is about exploring the mind. In our busy world, it’s easy to lose sight of our inner wisdom, the voice of our inner sage, or even, simply, our desire to have chicken tonight instead of the burgers everyone else is craving.
Find a quiet space (or create one) where you can take 15 minutes alone. Bring a pen and a couple of pieces of paper with you (yes, we’re doing this analog). Start writing.
You don’t need a particular subject, although feel free to write on one if you have it. Don’t stop writing. Even if you can’t think of anything to say — write that down. Keep pen on paper and see what comes up. Where does your mind wander? What appears on the page after 15 minutes?

Big things happen in small steps. Even adventure.
For today, take one step toward a project you’ve been putting off. (You know the one.) Maybe it’s cleaning out your closet or organizing your files. What about exploring a new hobby?
What’s one thing you can do to inch closer toward your goal? Do it!

There’s a lot to learn from children. When we’re young, life is full of adventure. We’re learning new things everyday, practicing and refining our skills.
Today, relearn a skill from childhood — when’s the last time you did a somersault or a cartwheel? Or finger painted? Or collected rocks and coins?
See what adventures you can reclaim today!

Remember the innocence and sense of wonder we had as a child? Those days when 64 colors in the box meant we had the capability to create entire new worlds?
Today, draw a picture with your inner child and see the world through their lens. Draw from scratch, or find a coloring book and draw outside the lines. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, draw something with your eyes closed then open your eyes and create a new drawing from your original.

Adventures often require some sort of risk. Some action required that gets you out of your comfort zone, pushing your limits when all we want to do is curl up with a good book and a cup of chicken noodle soup.
Our comfort zone is constantly shifting as we grow and stretch our personal limits. You guys have been amazing this month and so we created today’s adventure in celebration of stepping outside our comfort zones.
Today, choose an old comfort and add a new twist.
Maybe it’s an almond butter and jelly sandwich instead of good ‘ol PB&J. Or adding broccoli or bacon to your mac and cheese. It could be curling up with a non-fiction book you’ve been eyeing instead of your usual science fiction.

When you were young, did you ever read those books where you had to choose what decision the characters had to make at the end of every page?
Every day we face various situations and circumstances that allow us to choose to take action (or take no action). There are the safe and comfortable choices (e.g., having our favorite cereal for breakfast). There are choices we make out of habit (e.g., driving the same route every day to work). And there are choices we make that feel riskier and have an element of the unknown. Today, we challenge you to choose adventure.
Write your own story today. What will you choose?

It’s time to grab a drink and make some popcorn. Today’s adventure takes us to the cinema. (Or the comfy sofa in front of your home theater.)
Watch a movie in a different language. Feeling extra adventurous? Leave off the subtitles and try to figure out what’s going on. Make up your own story.

When’s the last time you danced with pure abandon? When you turned up the music and let the rhythm sink under your skin and into your blood?
Today’s adventure invites you to dance for no reason. Pick your favorite song, crank up the music and get down. Yep, right there in your living room.

Today’s adventure brings us our last guest contributor, the women of Chicks Climbing. The Colorado-based Chicks promotes self-reliance by teaching and focusing on technical skills to help women become more equal climbing partners. They also promote empowerment, the spirit of service and giving back to the community.
The Chicks hold ice and rock climbing clinics for women all across the country, so they know a little bit about adventure.
From Chicks Climbing:
“Play outside for 30 minutes today! Need inspiration? Pretend you’re a kid again and remember the outdoors is full of “natural” toys waiting to come to life with a bit of imagination.”

For your adventure today, set your alarm for 1:00 am. Head outside and check out the constellations.
If you’re in the city (or it’s too cloudy) and you can’t see the night sky, see how many constellations you can name. Grab a constellation book (or consult the Internet) to learn more.

Today we’re going to get our bodies moving.
Try a new sport or outdoor activity today (or one you haven’t done in years). Run one mile. Rent snowshoes and go for a hike. Maybe there’s an ice skating rink or perfect hill for sledding near you. Ever tried curling? Bicycle polo? Skijoring?
What sport have you always wondered what it might be like to try? What are you waiting for? Go try it!

Our world is full of many colors. Have you noticed lately? Choose your favorite color for the day and head outside to take note of all the places and ways it shows up in your world. What are the different shades? Where do they appear? Be sure to look up, down and under. Take a picture of your favorite.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, take at least five pictures of your color and share them with others.

So you think you know your neighborhood? Today we invite you to explore your hometown (and beyond).
Take a drive (or a bike ride) without a map. If you’re with someone, take turns choosing which direction to go when you reach an intersection.
Bonus: Park when the feeling is right and go explore on foot.
Extra bonus: For a different kind of adventure, try this on a trail (just remember to bring a map and compass!)

Today’s adventure takes us outside (sensing a theme yet?): Find a nearby trail to hike and notice the nature/wildlife.
Can you identify the trees? Which ones still have leaves on them? What’s growing on the ground? Are there nests in any of the trees?

Good morning!
Today’s adventure is in three steps:
1. Today: scout out a nice spot to see the sunrise.
2. Tonight: before you go to sleep, set your alarm clock extra early.
3. Tomorrow morning: get to your spot before the sun does.
Watch the sun rise.
Where did you choose to go? What colors do you see? If this was a familiar place, was it different than usual? In what way? If it was new, what did you love about it? Why did you choose it?

Today’s adventure comes to us from Kim Kircher. A ski patroller, author and traveller based in Washington state, she is intimately familiar with adventure in the traditional sense. Throwing bombs out of helicopters for avalanche control and skiing powdery cliffs is all in a day’s work.
Yet Kim also recognizes the beauty and importance of daily adventures and living in the moment.
From Kim:
“Feel the weather on your face today. Whether it’s snow, rain, sun or wind, go outside and expose your cheeks to whatever the day brings. In the winter, it’s easy to bundle up and bury our chins in scarves.
“But today, at least for a few minutes, wake up your soul and your skin by basking in the day’s weather. Be present to the weather today and pay attention. There’s nothing like a little weather to keep you in the moment.”

Today’s adventure is about learning. And sharing. And gaining knowledge. But it’s really about sharing that new knowledge with others.
Choose a topic you know nothing about (maybe you’ve been curious about this topic for awhile) and find information or an article about it. Read it. Then tell someone what you learned.
Bonus challenge: Go ahead and show off what you learned from Day 4, too.

Sometimes it can seem like we’re alone in the world. And that we need (or it’s easier) to do everything ourselves.
We’re here to challenge that assumption with today’s adventure: Ask for help.
It can be hard to ask others for help. (It’s usually much easier to offer to help others.) What do you need help with today? Lunches made for your kids? Input on a project at work? Painting your living room? Moving furniture? A shoulder to cry on? Shoveling a drive? Holding yourself accountable for your goals? Brainstorming a new idea?
Go ahead. Be brave. And vulnerable. Ask for help.

Today we introduce you to our next guest contributor, Sara Lingafelter. She’s a writer, climber and chronic optimist based in Seattle, WA. By day, she works in social media in the outdoor industry. In her free time, she’s the girl behind RockClimberGirl.com and has a knack for building communities.
One community we don’t often think about, but one we’re all a part of, is the conglomeration of voices that reside inside our heads.
Today’s adventure is about tuning into those voices and getting to know them a little more.
From Sara:
“Listen to the voices in your head. We all have them (right? Or is it just me?) … throughout the day, they tell us what we should and shouldn’t eat, who we should or shouldn’t talk to, and what we should and shouldn’t do with ourselves. We don’t even notice them, most of the time—we just carry out their orders.
“Today, stop and really LISTEN to those voices with intention — as if they’re coming from a friend or family member. Which messages or instructions really stand out? Are there ones that you might need to defend yourself against? If so, stick up for yourself to that voice. And, if there’s a quiet little (or not so quiet little) voice that pipes up that you identify as your creative self — consider DOING what it asks of you rather than putting it on a shelf for another time (or worse — to be forgotten).”

Friends and loved ones can add an element of spice to any adventure.
Today, why not invite a friend to join you on a creative endeavor? Here are a few ideas to get you thinking: make a meal together, paint a picture, sing a song, read a story aloud, build a sculpture or script a screenplay.
How does including another add to your experience?

Today we bring you a linguistic adventure: Learn a new word and incorporate it into a conversation with a loved one or colleague.
Bonus challenge: strike up a conversation with a stranger and use your new word.
Extra-extra bonus: make up your own word, teach it to someone else and use it in a sentence with a stranger.

Many of us have family and friends spread all over the globe. Emails, Facebook updates, texts and blog comments are all great ways to stay connected. But think about the joy that comes from a hand-addressed letter in the snail-mail box. When’s the last time you sent a handwritten letter just to say hi?
Today, go analog and send a card (or letter) to someone far away. Or heck, send a postcard to your next door neighbor.
Find a card laying around the house. If you don’t have a card, use a piece of paper, or you can get creative and make your own. Then write a nice note, address, stamp and send!

Today’s adventure comes from our very first guest contributor, Katie Levy. Katie is a Philadelphia-based outdoor addict with a passion for playing outside and sharing that passion with others. She believes there’s no such thing as an adventure too small to have, or to share. She’s a climber, hiker, backpacker, sort-of mountaineer, CrossFit enthusiast and founder of Adventure-Inspired. We’re delighted to welcome her to 31 Days of Adventure.
From Katie:
“Have breakfast, lunch or dinner with someone you don’t know well. Whether it’s the colleague you’ve been meaning to get to know, or an acquaintance you made at a recent social event, take the opportunity to spend time with someone outside your normal circles.”
Follow Katie on Twitter, visit her on Facebook and check out her blog.

Today is all about adventures for the senses.
Focus on all of your senses today. What does the air smell like? Can you pick out particular sounds in your environment? What car is rattling? Which one has the bass booming? What color is dominating your landscape today?

“For heights and depths no words can reach, music is the soul’s own speech.”
Break out of your regular playlist and listen to new music today.
Check out your local venues and go see a new band. Change your Pandora station to something you’ve never heard of. Listen to an opera in its entirety.

The colors and aromas of ethnic cuisines from around the world can open us up to all kinds of adventure.
For today’s adventure, try a new food.
Maybe it’s one you’ve never heard of before (quinoa? kim chi? — let’s give it go!) Or how about a food or spice you’re used to avoiding — hot salsa? chili paste? wasabi? Or maybe simply order a different item from your favorite restaurant instead of the regular.
Now’s the time to give your palate a little extra adventure. You never know what you might fall in love with.
Feeling extra adventurous? Invite a friend to cook something new for you and taste it without knowing what it is.

It’s often said that knowledge is power. What have you learned recently?
For today’s adventure, learn something new.
Some ideas to get you thinking:
- How to fly a kite.
- How to say ‘adventure’ in three different languages.
- Learn to knit.
- How to tie a bowline knot.
- The capitals for every province in Canada.
- Something about a loved one you don’t know.

Ever feel like you’re totally stuck in a rut and doing the same thing day in and day out?
For your daily adventure today, consider a different means of transportation to work (or school) — Can you bike? Walk? Take a bus or carpool? Or, if you can’t do that, take a different (maybe more scenic) route and see what you discover.

It’s often easy to overlook the little things as we go about our days.
Today’s adventure invites you to pause and notice the littlest things: The way the light comes in the window. The rise and fall of your chest as you breath (or maybe the breath of whoever else is in the room.) The patterns made by the trees.
How do the little things add adventure to your day? What have you discovered that you had missed before?

It’s a brand new year and many of us take this time to start fresh.
Today’s adventure is all about seeing things in a new and different light. Take a photo of something familiar from a new angle: up close; upside down; from above; from underneath.
What do you notice? What’s interesting? Unique?
